Staying comfortable in the cold Georgetown, IN, winters requires having a good working home heating system. Unfortunately, from time to time, your system may experience problems. If you notice that your system is showing any of the malfunctions below, you likely need to get your thermostat replaced.
Incorrect Temperature Reading
One obvious sign of a faulty thermostat is when it doesn’t accurately read the correct room temperature. In many instances, the actual temperature reading will be way off what the actual room temperature is. You can grab a thermometer to accurately check the temperature inside of your home and compare it to your thermostat’s reading.
System Turning On and Off
An annoying indicator that your thermostat needs replacing is your heating system constantly turns on and off. Typically, this is a problem with the internal wiring of the thermostat. It’s best to just replace the thermostat instead of trying to repair the internal wiring issue.
You Have a Dial Thermostat
Dial thermostats were the old standard for heating installations. However, newer programmable and smart thermostats have come out that allow you way more energy-efficient settings. In addition, newer models are more accurate at reading the indoor air temperature because they don’t rely on the old mercury thermometers.
Display Not Working
Your thermostat has a display screen that allows you to read the temperatures and change your settings. If the screen is blank, it could be an indication that it’s time for a new thermostat. Before you replace the thermostat, ensure the circuit breaker isn’t tripped, and new batteries don’t work to get the display screen to turn on.
